Millions of people have been displaced all over the world by these catastrophic events.
These devastations of Biblical proportions have affected over 100,000 people and 24 communities in Benue State Nigeria. Many watched their loved ones float away and drown. Hurricane Irma, a category five hurricane, has affected thousands of lives and threatens Millions of homes across the Caribbean. The Island of Barbuda has been totally demolished. Florida is on high alert, as half a million people flee for their lives, as Hurricane Irma makes its fast approach. Over 41 Million people across South Asia have been affected by floods causing 1,400 deaths over the past few months. Diarrhoea, malaria and dengue fever has afflicted thousands because of the floods. Tropical storm Harvey, in Houston Texas, has forced thousands to flee their homes. 13,000 people were rescued during the storm. According to NASA, the weight of the rainfall in Houston caused the land to physically plummet and sink.
In August, after three days of torrential rainfall, mud-slides buried hundreds alive in Regent, a town on outskirts of Freetown-Sierra Leone, leaving multitudes homeless and some still buried under the mud in their homes. In July, 500,000 people were evacuated in Japan during torrential rains.
Hurricane Irma is on its way to Puerto Rico and Florida, Cuba, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Anguilla, Montserrat, St.Kitts, St. Nevis and the Virgin Islands as I write. These places have been served notice that It approaches.
The whole world has been touched by the news of these torrential floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, mudslides and cyclones, earthquake of Apocalyptic proportions. People are suffering, as households and entire communities have either been wiped out or displaced. Many survivors are mourning their loved ones, others are still looking for missing family members, friends and children. Districts have had their crops for the whole year ruined. Malnutrition and disease are on the rise. Emergency services, Community centres and organisations have been overwhelmed and outstretched with the magnitude of the situation.
As the situation around the world worsens, many Christians globally have been praying and crying out to Heaven for Divine intervention, comfort, healing and restoration for survivors. Churches have opened their doors. Believers have liberally given their time and donated their funds and resources for relief efforts.
The end of the Age:
These floods and rumours of floods point to the time and season we are in and Christian’s every where must watch and pray (Luke 22:36). God has promised within His Word that one day, the earth as we know it, will no longer remain. These “fearful sights and great signs from heaven,” are a picture of what is to come (Luke 21:12). Luke 21:26 says, that people will faint from terror and apprehension because of the fearful signs on the earth.
Every Believer in Christ should be diligent in keeping a Spiritual watch. We must remember that Christ will return unexpectedly. People will be distracted and taken over with the cares of this life, worldliness and covetousness, when Christ returns.
Let us never cease to remind ourselves of the day of Judgement (Psalm 1:5), the Lord is coming soon. Let every Believer tell the world about Salvation in Christ, in this day of grace. Let us pray without ceasing, increasing our desire for holiness and godly living. Let us disentangle ourselves from worldliness. Let us remember to constantly pray for others and the nations of this world.
Today, let us pray for those affected by these recent calamities.
🙏Pray that God will bring hope and comfort to the millions of families and communities devastated by these sudden calamities. (Isaiah 40:1, Psalm 23:4, Psalm 27:1, Psalm 119:76, Psalm 9:9, Psalm 46:1).
🙏Pray for God’s mercy and peace on the earth Isaiah 26:3′ John 14:27, John 16:33, Philippines 4:7, Psalm 6, Psalm 51:1).
🙏Pray that God will protect and deliver your nation, neighbour-hood, family members and friends, from any hidden calamities yet to come on earth. (Psalm 61:2, 2Thessalonians 3:3, John 10:10, Psalm 5:11-12).
🙏Pray that Believers all over the world will take the message of God’s love to those who are suffering and hurting at this time. (John 3:16, Deut.7:9, Psalm 86:15, Psalm 136:26, Zephaniah 3:17).
🙏Pray that through you, many may come to faith in Christ. Pray that those distressed by these recent calamities will have hope and restoration, even in midst of their sadness and sorrow. (1John5:5, 1John5:13, 1Tim.4:12, Gal.3:22, Galatians2:20, John1:12).
🙏Pray for revival on the earth, that many will seek to know God and hunger for His Word. (John 3:16, Col.1:9, John 17:3, Galatians 4:8-9, Ephesians 1:17, Ephesians 3:19, Col. 2:2).
Let us thank God for what He has done already through the emergency services and their workers. Let us thank God for the mercy and loving-kindness that He releases upon the earth every morning. It is only by His grace that we live each day on earth. Only God can intervene in calamitous situations of biblical proportions like this. We must not lose hope, but always pray without ceasing.
