Love Your Enemies
The perfect example of One who love(s) His enemies can be found in Christ. It is not a natural thing to Love your enemies, it is an act birthed by the Spirit of God.
As hard as it may seem, Christ wants us to follow in His footsteps,
“To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.” – 1 Peter 2:21
This was a man who “committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.” What excuse do you and I have?
When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats, instead he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.
Are you able to look on, shake your head and not respond to the wicked acts of your detractors? Indeed, you should pity them, because of the one “ who judges justly.”
The Lord says, we are not to be revengeful, unforgiving or hold grudges. “Vengeance is mine, says the Lord.” – Romans 12:19. Let justice take it rightful place.
We must forgive, but not ignore the facts. When a person is openly wicked, deceitful and unrepentant, they have the ability to hurt you. In wisdom, you do not keep yourself in harms way.
We can make a conscious choice to Love our enemies, not only in Word, but in deed:
🙏speak well of them, be
🙏kind to them and
🙏pray for them,
Amen.
