Jesus Christ is displayed in His threefold office of Prophet, Priest and King.

  • The faithful witness:He came to bear witness to the truth (John 18:37).

  • First born from of the dead: Because He lives, the first to rise from the dead, we live.

  • The ruler: Jesus is Lord of Lords and King of Kings

It turns from theology into praise in the end, as John cannot help but begin to praise “The ruler over the kings of the earth.” Jesus the same, His power yesterday, is the same today, and forever.

He died and rose again so that we can live. Because He lives we live. Every child of God has a new life, free from the bondage of guilt sin and shame. Nothing but the blood of Jesus has the power or ability to wash a polluted soul. Nothing but the blood of Jesus can protect from the tyranny of satan and Hell.

TO HIM WHO LOVED US AND WASHED US IN HIS BLOOD (Rev.1:5 -part 3)

revelation1_511In the latter part Rev.1:5 (f), we are reminded of certain truths and Christ’s relationship to us. In His love, He saved us and washed us from our sins. He gave His life for the Church. The love of Christ is everlasting, just as He loved the Church then, He loves it now. Some version of the Bible say, “To Him who has loved us.” The love of the Lord Jesus Christ could be seen as what He accomplished in the past. He certainly loved us in the past, just as He loves us now. His love is everlasting, without beginning and without end. The focus here is not on a past love. It is about His present love, a perpetual and continuous love.

The Church was facing all kinds of obstacles when the Book of Revelation was written. It was a time of suffering, difficulty and trial for the sake of the gospel. The Church went through horrendous experiences, just as it does in this age. In the middle of it all, John reminds the Church of the love of Christ.

Whatever you are going through, the trials you see the body of Christ going through. just remember the constant and continuous love of Christ. His love remains the same through the ages. He will not leave His Church, His glorious bride to suffer alone. He is with her always, even until the very end (Matthew 28:20).

THE FIRST BORN -REV1:5 -PART 2

revelation1_51THE FIRST BORN FROM THE DEAD (REV.1:5 part 2)

This verse draws from Psalm 89. It is a messianic Psalm. Verse 29 says,

“I will make him My firstborn.”

The term”First Born” is often used in scripture to refer to someone who has special rights and privileges. The First Born has special rights under Old Testament Law. It is a title taken up from the OT and applied to Christ in the New Testament. Our Jesus Christ is first born from the dead,

Risen From the dead

Jesus Christ is the first born from the dead, the heir who is risen. Everything belongs to Him and is handed over to Him. All things are part of His inheritance. All things that have been taken and distorted by this world and satan will be purified and become His everlasting inheritance.

This world with its wickedness is temporary. The evil occupation of this earth is passing. The troubling of this world by satan is just for a moment. The pervasive nature of sin in this universe is just for a short while. Christ is the First Born, risen from the dead. He is risen, an eternal heir of all things.

THE RULER OVER KINGS OF THE EARTH

This is also a reflection of Psalm 89. Verse 27b says,

“The highest of the kings of the earth.”

Jesus Christ is the most exhorted and exalted King of the earth. He is the greatest ruler. In Eph. 1:20 we are taken back to the resurrection of Christ and reminded of the great power of God. This power raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at the right hand in heavenly places. All rule, power, dominion and authority belongs to Jesus. Not just in this present age, but also in the one to come. God has placed all things under His feet and appointed Him to be everything for the Church.

King Jesus reigns and rules over all things for the sake of the Church. In every generation He gives grace and peace. He gives us all the spiritual resources, that we could ever need. He gives if for our well-being. The Spirit of wisdom enables and empowers us. He is completely reliable, He gives us a persevering spirit and the ability to endure.

He is victorious, He is the heir of all things!

chasing shadows

Romans8_38_39

Chasing shadows…
People search high and low to fill the void in their hearts. They search for fulfillment in the wrong places. Nations place their confidence in the world’s system. It is only when God shakes the systems they place their confidence in, that they realise that all power is not dependent on man, but God.

The world is in desperate need of God. Many do not realise they need Jesus Christ in their lives? He is the only way to the Father. There is a desperate yearning for this relationship with God in the souls of men, yet they live their lives unconvinced of this need.

Paul was a man convinced and persuaded about His need of God. He knew that nothing could separate Him from the love of God in Christ Jesus. In Romans 8:38,39, Paul gives a list of circumstances that could possibly separate, shake and spoil our relationship with God through Christ: death, life, angels, demons, the present, the future, powers, heights, depth, anything else on the face of the earth. None of these things should move the Church. Every believer should be perfectly convinced that we are safe and secure in the protective, providential arms of Jesus.

“For the mountains may be removed and the hills may shake, But My loving-kindness will not be removed from you, And My covenant of peace will not be shaken,” Says the LORD who has compassion on you.” Isaiah 54:10

The Faithful Witness

Revelation1_5THE FAITHFUL WITNESS; (Rev. 1:5 – Part 1)

In the days of trial you need someone you can trust and rely on. You need someone who is a rock. Jesus Christ is described as the One who gives us Grace and peace. He is described as, “the faithful witness. In Rev. 1:5, John reflects upon Psalm 89. God the Son is fully described in His threefold office of Prophet, Priest, and King here. In verses 36 and 37 it says,

His seed shall endure forever, And his throne as the sun before Me; 37 It shall be established forever, like the moon, Even like the faithful witness in the sky.” (Psalm 89:36:37)

In this Psalm, the Psalmist talks about the endurance of the sun and the moon. The sun and moon are “faithful” witnesses in the sky, in that they never cease to give light to the earth. Even when dark clouds appear on the earth, the sun shines and is present behind the scenes. As we look up every night, the moon is always there. The sun and moon are stable, they have been set in place by Almighty God.

Jesus Christ is the faithful witness (Rev.1:5). He is as sure as the sun and moon, described in Psalm 89. Reliable and dependable is His name. Jesus came to bear witness to the truth (John 18:37). He is Jesus Christ the anointed, and appointed Saviour. He is the “faithful witness.” (Rev.1;5).

Timelessness

revelation1_42Timelessness: “Who is and Who was and Who is to come.” Rev.1:4 (Part 3)

Who is this God who supplies us with Grace and peace? He is the God who is, who was and who is to come.

  • He is the source of Grace and peace to us

  • He is eternal, He is everlasting and unchanging

  • He is constantly intervening and shifting the immoveable.

Seven Spirits:

It goes without saying, there are some doors in Revelation that appear to have no keys…

The “Seven Spirits” mentioned in Rev.1:4 could mean a number of things. Just like the Seven Churches represent The Church as a whole (read part 1), the Seven Spirits may represent the nature of God, the Spirit in Isaiah11:2 is described in seven aspects:

The Spirit of the Lord,

The Spirit of wisdom,

The Spirit of understanding,

The Spirit of counsel,

The Spirit of might,

The Spirit of knowledge and

The Spirit of the fear of the Lord.

It could also represent the Spirit of God present in each of the Seven Churches (Rev.5:6).

We need the Spirit of God in every aspect of our lives. We need the Spirit of the Lord. We need His Wisdom and insight so that we know the right way to go and the right things to do. We need His understanding, He gives us the ability to see beyond the natural, He gives divine understanding. He sees things as they really are, and not how they appear to be. Before Him all things are open and manifest. He is the wonderful counsellor. The Spirit who can give guidance, counsel, understanding and direction through every generation. He is a God of power who gives strength in place of weakness. He is a mighty deliverer, who delivers His children in times of trouble. We need the Spirit of God to enable and equip us. He is the Spirit of Knowledge, He unveils Jesus Christ to us, without Him, we cannot know Christ. The Spirit of the fear of the Lord promotes within us the right attitude and reverence towards God.

We need the Spirit of God to be God’s people in the ever changing difficulties of life.

His Throne:

The Holy Spirit is always in the presence of God. The sovereign decrees of the Father are carried out by Him.
