The Atoning Sacrifice

Christ the Atoning Sacrifice

God took away the First; the old systems; the old ceremonies, to establish the Second, the New Covenant: Christ the Atonement, is fulfilment of prophecy.

Christ offered up His body as that Living Sacrifice. He abolished the insufficient legal sacrifices that were being offered up under the Law of Moses. God was not pleased with these burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin (Hebrews 10:6) and the writer to the Hebrews quotes from Psalm 40:6 when he says these types of offerings were valueless in God’s eyes.

Only Christ could perfect the imperfections that constituted the old burnt offerings and sacrifices under the Law. Without the cornerstone in a building, it will collapse. Christ is the cornerstone that holds the building together.

Christ came in obedience to do the Father’s will and this is what God says of Him,

“This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”- Matthew 3:17

A Joint Invitation

A Joint Invitation

The Spirit and the Bride give out a gospel invitation to the Spiritually hungry and destitute in Revelation 22:17.

‘And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.’ (Revelation 22:7).

The Spirit is the Holy Spirit and the Bride is the global Church.

📩This invitation is to open those who recognise they are lost and in need of Salvation. The Holy Spirit is calling them. The Church will welcome them into the Body where they will be nurtured and discipled.

👂🏽The scripture talks about those who will hear the Spirit calling. The Lord knows those who are His and their ears will be attentive. They will hear and respond to the voice of the Holy Spirit.

🏆Those who are thirsty, who recognise their spiritual need, will drink in abundance. They will drink unreservedly, “freely” from the well of Life. It flows with streams that never run dry. Not everyone will heed this call, however, the Word tells us it will be open to whoever… as many as, will will hear and heed the voice of the Holy Spirit. They will rejoice eternally.

Let the humble hear and be glad! Hallelujah

Planned by the Trinity

Betrayal

God knew that Christ would be betrayed and handed over to lawless men. It was part of His pre-ordained Salvation Plan. It was a betrayal that worked out for God’s purpose in the end…

Our Trespasses

Christ was betrayed because of our offences. He was sent to the Cross and He became sin for us, carrying our sins upon His shoulders.

Our Justification

It all started with Christ’s death and it was perfected in His resurrection. In His death, He paid our debt, freeing us from the guilt and punishment of sin. Those in Christ are made just by Christ. He is our justification and salvation.

The Way Maker…

The way of Salvation

The rebellious and sinful condition of this world was such that God had to do something about it. Christ came to save the world and not to condemn it.

People in this world live in total opposition to God, they are totally corrupt. Sadly, anyone who leaves this world in their sinful condition will meet with God’s justice. They fail to understand that sin demands justice. There is a place of Justice, to which Christ freely offers you pardon.

Christ has made a way out for us, in that while we were in our sinful condition, He died for us.

“God so loved the world, that he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever Believes In Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”(John 3:16).

God’s Love towards us, both Jews and Gentiles, alike is based on His Love, and nothing else. The offer of eternal life and salvation is still open to those who will call on Jesus today…

Perfect and Complete.

ONCE AND FOR ALL

Hebrews 10:10 says,

“…we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”

Can you imagine having to give the same offering again and again to appease God’s wrath? This is what Moses and later on, the Levitical priests did. They had to offer up sacrifices to God, year after year, on behalf of the children of Israel. It was like having a wound that was constantly covered, but never healed. It’s the cleansing of a wound that brings healing. These sacrifices had no ability to cleanse them from their sins, it only temporarily covered them. These ceremonial offerings served as a temporary remedy, they were not a permanent solution.

Christ does not enter a tent made with human hands, but a Heavenly Throne. What Christ has done is final, complete and forever. There’s no going back and forth, He doesn’t die again, then get re- resurrected time and time again….

Let us thank God this hour for Christ’s One time, Ultimate, All-Sufficient offering. It’s a glorious act of God’s Love and amazing Grace.

The Covenant of Grace

The Covenant of Grace

The sacrifices of the Levitical priests were not able to wipe away sins. The guilt of sin was still left behind, making it essential for these sacrifices and offerings to be offered continuously ( Hebrews 10:3).

These imperfect offerings, could not satisfy God’s justice or benefit from God’s grace. The Mosaical Law was shadow of what was to come. “No one one is declared righteous by observing the law” Romans (3:20).

God’s Love

Grace is God’s mercy to those who do not deserve it. Christ has provided His body as the ultimate Living Sacrifice forever, appeasing God, once and for all, on our behalf. The opposite of grace is works and there is no alternative way or methods, outside of Christ, to free a person from guilt or the punishment of it.

An Unbreakable Promise

An unbreakable promise

The faithfulness of God is beautifully displayed in the promises He makes. He is faithful to keep them, never turning His back on them.

The Mosaical Law was written on tablets of stone. It was a covenant that was broken physically and spiritually. Under the New Covenant, the Word of God is firmly written in the heart, Christ being the fulfilment of the Law. The Spiritual handwriting of God in the hearts of His children can never be erased.

God gives a new heart, moulding and shaping it according to His Word. The regeneration of the heart is God’s work. By God’s special Grace, many shall have a change of heart and believe in Christ. Christ has paid the ultimate price to bring many sons to glory.

Appeasing; Moderating; On your behalf

Righteous Advocate, Propitiation for our sins.

In His mercy and Grace, God provided a way out, a way of Salvation for a world He created. According to His plan and purpose, He had to redeem a people He loved, but they were separated from Him by Sin.

We have a High Priest, Christ our Saviour, who continually intercedes for us. Even when we make mistakes, according to God’s Faithfulness, He forgives us of our sins. Christ our Righteous Advocate, makes Propitiation, appeasing God’s wrath and anger, on our behalf.

The Ultimate Sacrifice, Christ the Son of God, still speaks for us today. This is how the Father has demonstrated His love to guilty sinners. All those who believe in Christ, will live and reign with Him, eternally. Hallelujah.

Humility and Humanity

A humble spirit and lowly heart.

Though He was equal with God, Christ came to earth and took on our human nature, without the sin. The glory was there, but it was hidden.

Growing up on earth, Christ embraced the weaknesses of ordinary men. He denied His rights as King. Though Incarnate, He had a virgin birth, went through childhood and adulthood, had siblings and learnt a trade… Matthew 13:55, 56, Mark 6:3).

Christ went through hunger and rejection, sorrow and pain. He also rejoiced when others rejoiced. He was tempted, as we are, but He did not sin ( Hebrews 4:15). Christ chose Obedience to God’s will. He humbled Himself, fulfilling all righteousness, satisfying God’s justice, redeeming our souls from destruction.

Obedience From the Heart

Obedience From the Heart

Christ came into this world as a servant of servants. He arrived with open ears and an obedient heart, willing to do what was required of Him.

The Levitical sacrifices and offerings were not the ultimate sacrifice (Leviticus 17:11), they had no power to take away sin, they were only types and shadows of something better… a better way that would come…

“Sacrifice and offering You did not desire”. – Hebrews 10:5

Christ is the fulfilment of Prophecy, the promise keeper, keeping God’s covenant to all Generations. Just like Christ, God’s Law is now written in our hearts, giving us a better Covenant, a New and Living way.
