The Great Outpouring of the Spirit.
This Pentecost, let us remember its significance to the Church, and our individual lives.
The Jews celebrated Pentecost as a harvest festival (Leviticus 23:15,16, Deuteronomy 16:9-12, Num.28:26).
The Spirit of God now fills the children of the Living God. This is the effect of the in dwelling of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit will go to the ends of the earth, spreading to nations and taking territories. Jesus commanded the disciples to go into all the earth. While the Spirit was previously given for special purposes, God has now given us His Spirit, through His Son, to be with His Church forever.
The Spirit did not cease to function after the era of the Apostles. The gospel of Jesus Christ goes beyond every season, it is not confined to an era. It crosses boundaries, overstepping Linguistics barriers.
The Spirit is with us to stay forever. The coming of the Spirit fulfils the prophecy of Joel, ushering in a new era, not just for the disciples, but for all who are followers and believers of Jesus Christ ( Matthew 3:11, Luke 3:16). The Spirit baptises with the Spirit and Fire, taking up permanent residence and not a temporary one.
