God’s love is so distinguishing. The extent of His love made Him give up His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16).
The expression of God’s love is beautifully displayed in the fact that He died for a people completely undeserving of His love. The human race takes pleasure in sin. It is drenched in it. Without the redeeming power of the blood creation would have been without hope.
Romans 5:8Amplified Bible
“But God shows and clearly proves His [own] love for us by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) died for us.”
1 John 4:10 Amplified Bible
10 In this is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation (the atoning sacrifice) for our sins.
God encompasses love. Every thing about Him exudes love. His love brought atonement (the restoration of a friendly relationship between God and man). He has given us this love freely and willingly. Nobody pressured God into giving up His precious Son. The love of God is the reason that He sent His Son to die on a Cross. The love of God is the source of Redemption. If God did not love this world, He would not have sent His son to redeem it. Only the blood of Jesus has redemptive power to wash away sin. Human sacrifices, good will and good works cannot do it, they have no atoning power. Without the shedding of the blood of Jesus we are a condemned people without hope. We are people without salvation. However, He has not left us hopeless, He has given us a Saviour.
The Captain of our Salvation humbled himself. He left His divinity and came down to earth like an ordinary man. He suffered shame and humiliation to take away the sins of the world. He had the power to do it, and He did it willingly. He achieved His aim and He did it by His own power, without the help of man. He lay down His life of His own accord. He could have summoned legions of angels to destroy those who nailed him to the cross. Instead, He put aside His sovereignty and majesty, He humbled himself and became an ordinary man. His sacrificial death was an ABSOLUTE necessity for the salvation of mankind. It could not have been done any other way. Without Jesus Christ no human being can be justified before God. His blood is the perfect atonement for our sin.
What greater love is there than this:
John 15:13-15Amplified Bible (AMP)
13 No one has greater love [no one has shown stronger affection] than to lay down (give up) his own life for his friends.
